KABALE - Bank of Uganda is set to hand over a maternity facility at Rubaya Health Centre IV in Kabale district in honour of the late governor, Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile.

Construction of the block was started by Mutebile himself and he died in January this year when it was being completed.

The maternity ward has been named Mutebile Maternity Block.

Mutebile, through Bank of Uganda, accepted to construct the facility in response to a request by the area MP and state minister for industry, David Bahati, as one of the programmes towards improving services for pregnant mothers.

“We lobbied for this facility from Bank of Uganda and it was at completion stage when our loving governor passed on," said Bahati.

"The current administration, however, decided to continue with the project until it has been fully furnished and is due for handover."

Deputy governor Michael Atingi-Ego is scheduled to hand over the block on Friday together with other medical items donated by Bank of Uganda.

A former student of Kigezi High School, Mutebile served as the governor of the Bank of Uganda from 2001 until his death at the age of 72 on January 23, 2022.

He was buried in his native Kabale district.
