Amb. Matovu laid to rest

In a message to the mourners, Kabaka Mutebi II eulogized him as a humble, but tireless servant who had been with him in the rebuilding of the Kingdom.

Ambassador William Solomon Kaboga Matovu who died at the age of 85 was laid to rest at Mpala, Katabi Town Council on Thursday, May 8, 2025.

Amb. Matovu represented Uganda in countries like the UK, China, India, Congo, and USSR (Russia) among others.

Records indicate that after retiring from foreign service, he began serving Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi (King of Buganda ) in 1995 as the Permanent Secretary in Katikkiro's office and retired as Minister in Charge of Royal Treasury & Security in 2019, but remained serving in other capacities.

In a message to the mourners, Kabaka Mutebi II eulogized him as a humble, but tireless servant who had been with him in the rebuilding of the Kingdom.

Kabaka said that Amb. Matovu was fast in directing and advising on any matter concerning the throne.

"He has been a selfless servant. He served diligently in foreign service, we thank him," said Kabaka in his message read by Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga at St. Paul's Cathedral Namirembe in a memorial Service on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.



"We, therefore, join the family and friends in mourning our friend whom we have moved with during this journey of strengthening the throne and building the Kingdom. For a long time without hesitation, the deceased has worked without fear, defended and served the throne in a manner that dignified the Kingdom," said Kabaka.

Katikkiro Mayiga described the late as a mentor to many in the Kingdom including him.

"He has been a mentor to many in the Kingdom including me. He has been an encyclopedia about the Kingdom affairs ranging from Kabaka Daudi Chwa II's reign to date. Good enough we have utilized his wisdom," said Mayiga.

On behalf of the Children, Louis Namatovu thanked their father for giving his girls an equal opportunity as boys and pledged to keep the legacy of their father.

"We thank Kabaka, and his government for whatever he has done for our father and all of his friends. Thank you for being with us in this trying moment," said Namatovu.

Amb. Matovu who died on May 2, 2025, was born to Kabaka's chief Semu Kaboga and Mariam Nakkazi of Kirala, Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District in Busiro county on August 15, 1939.
