Entrepreneurs in wood-based value chains have been asked to take advantage of a new funding window from the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) with support from the European Union (EU) to grow their business.

Under the tagline call for businesses: Unlocking Finance and Growth Opportunities in Uganda’s Wood-Based Value Chain, applicants should state clearly if their businesses are formally registered with either the local authority, like the council or municipality and also with the Uganda Registration Services Bureau, among others.

According to a call for applications from FAO, which was issued on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, and ends on August 29, applicants should state the number of years of operation and explain if the business is a co-operative, an association, a sole proprietorship or a limited company, among others.

Potential beneficiaries

Eligible activities include logging and harvesting, sawmilling, Wood product manufacture, e.g, plywood, furniture, engineered wood products such as particle boards, cross-laminated timber and glue-laminated timber.

Others are mass timber construction as an alternative to traditional concrete structures, traders and distributors of wood and wood products.

Support service providers for the wood sector, e.g, equipment repair and service centres, composite wood e.g, a combination of bamboo and solid wood), Products from utilisation, among others.

Other requirements that should be included in the application form include the average revenue and number of employees.

While applying, a summary of the company's growth strategy and future expansion plans, a description of sustainable wood sourcing and also applicants should outline the company's specific support needs or interventions required to scale to the next level.
