Women in the creative sector have been urged to transition from basic banking to strategic wealth building to ensure the sustainability of their enterprises.
According to Gladys Nalukenge Lubowa, the Relationship Manager, Women in Business at KCB Bank Uganda, the Flower Land Fest 2026, held at Design Hub, Bugolobi, offered an opportunity for women to learn.
The festival marked the official close of the 2026 Annual Women’s History Exhibit, themed "A Garden of Her Own". The bank utilised the platform to engage the attendees, a group often operating in non-traditional sectors, on how to navigate Uganda’s expanding creative economy through structured financial solutions.
Throughout the day, the Design Hub was transformed into a vibrant marketplace of ideas and innovation. The participants experienced high-energy creative showcases, diverse exhibitions, and networking sessions that allowed Female-Led Micro and Small Enterprises (FLMEs) to display their brands to a wider audience.
A highlight of the event was the high-level panel discussion dubbed “Women & the Creative Economy”, which featured Gladys Nalukenge Lubowa, the Relationship Manager Women in Business at KCB Bank Uganda.
During the session, Nalukenge provided critical tips for creatives who traditionally focus on their craft rather than their financial structure to support foundational growth.
She emphasised that while the creative economy, spanning music, fashion, film, and digital content, offers immense opportunities, long-term success requires a shift toward investment planning and SME financing.
“Many creatives do not think about financial tools beyond basic transactions, but to build a garden of your own, you must cultivate financial stability. We are encouraging women to move toward investment planning and structured SME solutions. We want to bridge the gap between earning an income and building genuine wealth. Whether you are a fashion designer or a digital content creator, we want to partner with you to build a sustainable enterprise and start your financial journey today,” Nalukenge stated.
The bank’s engagement booth also served as a hub for interactive financial advisory as various bank representatives met with attendees to discuss tailored SME financing, investment planning and digital integration.
As the "Because of Her" celebrations concluded, the message remained clear: International Women’s Day is a moment of reflection and a call to accelerate support for women in business.
The bank remains committed to this cause through ongoing capacity-building initiatives and financial products that cater to the specific needs of women, ensuring that the momentum generated at Flower Land Fest continues throughout the year.
