Weekly Market Wrap: Umeme dominates trading week

KAMPALA - Total market turnover at the Uganda Securities Exchange fell by 22% to sh96m compared to sh123.1m traded the previous week.

According to data from Crested Capital, nine counters were actively traded exchanging 1.52 million shares in volume relative to 1.71 million shares last week.

Umeme exchanged the highest turnover at sh31.4m, MTN followed with sh30m, Stanbic dealt sh24.3m, Bank of Baroda (BOBU) traded sh5.2m, Airtel Uganda dealt sh3.3m, NIC Holdings (NIC) moved sh1m, Uganda Clays Limited (UCL) traded sh503,000, dfcu Limited (DFCU) exchanged sh113,000 and New Vision Limited (NVL) moved 29,376.

On share price movements, only four traded counters registered price movements. BOBU, Umeme, and Stanbic share prices increased 3.13%, 0.91%, and 0.74% respectively to sh16.50, sh443, and sh34.25 respectively. NIC was the only loser, dropping 1.64% to sh6.00 while other active counters remained unchanged.

On the cross-listings, Nation Media Group led the gainers – increasing 0.97% on its share price, Centum Investments followed rising 0.81%, KCB Group was up 0.57% and East African Breweries rose 0.19%. Equity Group Holdings fell 3.50% and Jubilee Holdings was down 0.14%.

The C11, Crested’s local companies’ index increased 0.07% to 95.55 while the USE All Share Index (ALSI) was down 0.60% to 1053.27.
