Wazalendo Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (WSACCO) officially opened its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday (March 31) at Gaddafi Barracks, marking a historic milestone of two decades in operation.

The event, held under the theme "Sustainable Growth and Quality Member Services," serves as both a statutory review of the SACCO’s performance and a celebration of its 20-year journey since inception.

The ceremony was graced by the Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Jacob Oboth Oboth.

The meeting attracted a significant turnout of UPDF top brass and leadership, including Lt Gen. Kayanja Muhanga, Commander of Land Forces, who performed a ceremonial signing to commemorate the SACCO’s 20-year achievement, and Lt Gen. Sam Kavuma, chairman of Wazalendo SACCO, who officially called the meeting to order.

Other attendees include Lt Gen. (Rtd) Kale Kayihura, Lt Gen. Charles Okidi, Commander of the Air Force, Maj. Gen. Joseph Musoke Ssemwanga, the Deputy Commander of Land Forces, UPDF Members of Parliament, and members of the SACCO command.

Since its founding, Wazalendo has grown into the largest SACCO in Uganda, primarily serving personnel of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), their families, and staff of the Ministry of Defence.

The 20th anniversary highlights the institution’s evolution from a small credit entity into a financial powerhouse that plays a critical role in the socio-economic welfare of the country’s security forces.
