Despite making up less than one per cent of Uganda’s population, the Indian community contributes at least 65 per cent of the country’s income tax revenue, according to figures from the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.

Uganda and India share a rich history of cooperation spanning trade, investment, development, and technology transfer. Bilateral trade between the two nations has now surpassed $1.2 billion, while the Indian government continues to support Uganda through development assistance and defence cooperation.

The bilateral relations between India and Uganda are characterised by historical cultural linkages, extensive economic and trade interests, and a convergence on major bilateral and international issues.

The Indian community in Uganda always celebrates all Indian festivals with equal pomp and fervour. In addition to festivals, the Indian community, every year, celebrates India Day, which is a cultural extravaganza.

The bilateral ties between the two countries have developed into a strong relationship that encompasses all industries, facilitating collaboration and building mutual understanding.

Taxes from the companies have played a crucial role in the development of Uganda, extending assistance in several domains like infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, and education.
