UPDF’s Wazalendo SACCO unveils sh1.7b complex in Arua city

Wazalendo Savings and Credit Co-operative Society (WSACCO) has officially commissioned its cash branch and business complex in Arua city.

The sh1.7 billion multi-purpose two-storey complex in Prisons cell, Arua Central Division, was constructed by the UPDF Engineering Brigade. It hosts the SACCO branch, residential houses, and business units, including office spaces, a shopping mall, bars and restaurants, and conference halls.

Construction began in August 2024, and the building was officially launched on August 22, 2025.

Col Yususf Magero Buha, the acting chief executive officer of Wazalendo SACCO, described the SACCO as strong and self-sustaining with an asset base of over sh1 trillion. He said the SACCO was formed to improve the welfare of armed personnel and their families.

The representative of the 4th Infantry Division commander, Godfrey Anang, said Wazalendo SACCO, as a leading SACCO in the country, should serve as a benchmark for empowering and building the capacity of other struggling SACCOs.

Brig. Gen. Justus Rukundo, chairperson of the supervisory board of Wazalendo SACCO, confirmed that the construction offered value for money and urged the local community to take advantage of the affordable business and residential spaces provided.

Likewise, the chairperson of the board of directors of Wazalendo SACCO, Col Allan Kitanda, encouraged local governments in the region to partner with Wazalendo Investment Ltd, the SACCO’s business arm, especially in road construction.

Arua resident city commissioner Salim Kumakech, who was chief guest at the launch, applauded the UPDF Engineering Brigade and the SACCO management for the transparency that had ensured quality work at minimal cost.
