Ugandans in Canada call for stronger investment platforms, policy inclusion

The Ugandan diaspora in Canada has called on the Government to improve access to investment opportunities and support for initiatives led by Ugandans abroad.
This appeal was made during a dialogue held on Saturday, July 26, in Ottawa between diaspora members and a delegation of Ugandan officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State House Diaspora Unit, and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM Uganda).

Diaspora participants proposed the introduction of diaspora bonds and urged the Government to ease travel restrictions affecting Ugandans living overseas. They also requested more structured engagement with decision-makers at home.
Ambassador Johnny M. Muhindo, who led the delegation, called for unity and pledged the Government’s continued support.
Mohammed Bagonza, head of the State House Diaspora Unit and senior presidential advisor on diaspora affairs, said the issues raised would be carefully considered and incorporated into the forthcoming National Diaspora Policy.
The meeting was held with support from the Uganda High Commission in Canada, under the leadership of Ambassador Allan Kajik, who participated in the discussions.
