Invest in African Energies has confirmed Uganda National Oil Company CEO Proscovia Nabbanja as a distinguished speaker at this year’s edition of the Africa Energy Week (AEW), which is the continent’s premier energy investment event.
According to a statement by the Africa Energy Chamber issued on Sunday, May 26, 2025, Nabbanja is expected to spotlight investment opportunities across Uganda’s oil and gas value chain, including upstream field development, pipeline construction and local content initiatives.
With UNOC actively seeking strategic and financial partners, her insights will be vital for investors looking to tap into one of Africa’s most promising frontier markets.
AEW is the African Energy Chamber’s annual event, uniting African energy leaders, global investors and executives from across the public and private sectors for four days of intense dialogue on the future of the African energy industry.
An interactive conference, exhibition and networking event, AEW was established in 2021 under the premise of making energy poverty history by 2030, hosting panel discussions, investor forums, industry summits and one-on-one meeting opportunities, and driving the discussions that will reshape the trajectory of the continent’s energy development.
This year's AEW is slated to take place in South Africa's Cape Town from September 29 to October 3.
The energy chamber says the strategic significance of Uganda’s oil sector extends beyond national development. "With EACOP [East African Crude Oil Pipeline] connecting Uganda to international markets and the Lake Albert basin poised to anchor long-term production, the country is laying the groundwork for downstream growth, job creation and revenue generation.
UNOC is also focused on building domestic refining and storage capacity, reinforcing energy security and creating a multiplier effect across the economy. For investors, this translates into wide-ranging opportunities not only not in crude oil production, but across logistics, infrastructure, services and skills development".
EACOP is a 1,443km pipeline that is expected to transport crude oil from Uganda to Tanzania. It is a transboundary project with various agreements, approvals, and contracts in place, and it is financed by debt and equity.
"Uganda is making bold moves to monetise its resources and become a key oil producer in East Africa. In partnership with major operators, UNOC is driving projects like Lake Albert and EACOP forward with clarity of vision and a strong national agenda. We are proud to welcome Proscovia Nabbanja to AEW 2025, where she will showcase how Uganda is open for business and ready to partner with global investors,” AEW programme director Oré Onagbesan said.
The chamber says this year's energy week in 2025, returns bigger and better, serving as the official meeting place for Africa’s energy elite.
"At the forefront of the African energy industry, AEW promotes the role Africa plays in global energy matters, centred around African-led dialogue and decision-making. Covering the entire energy sector and value chain, AEW represents the only conference on the continent representative of the entire sector," the statement reads.
