Uganda’s annual inflation stood at 3.8% in August, unchanged from July, according to the latest figures from the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (Ubos).

The stability was helped by easing food prices, Ubos said.

Food crops inflation slowed to 3.0% in the year ending August, down from 3.2% in July, with rice, dried fish, maize flour, matooke, Irish potatoes, passion fruits, mangoes and fresh beans all recording price drops.

Core inflation, which strips out food crops, energy, fuel and utilities, was steady at 4.1%. However, the services sector kept pressure on overall prices. Annual services inflation rose to 5.1% in August from 4.6% a month earlier, driven by higher costs in transport, restaurants, accommodation, insurance and financial services.
