Uganda Clays Ltd said the employment contract of its managing director, Reuben Tumwebaze, expired and was not renewed, leaving the listed building materials maker to begin the search for a new chief executive.
The company said in a market notice that Tumwebaze’s contract ended on Jan 31, 2026, bringing to a close his tenure at a time when manufacturers are grappling with uneven construction demand and rising input costs.
The board chairman, Eng. Martin Kasekende, has appointed the head of finance, Jones Muhumuza, as acting managing director with effect from Feb 1, 2026, until a substantive chief executive is appointed, the company said
At Uganda Clays, Tumwebaze replaced George Inholo, who was sacked over reported failure to turn around the company. Inholo served as managing director for six years. Tumwebaze was appointed in March 2021.
Uganda Clays, which manufactures clay building products such as roofing tiles and bricks, is listed on the Uganda Securities Exchange.
Uganda Clays' revenue declined 17% to sh30.4b in 2023, down from sh36.6b the previous year, due to equipment breakdowns and machine integrity issues that affected production.
