UGAFODE Microfinance Limited (MDI) has strengthened its standing as one of Uganda’s most outstanding financial institutions after clinching three top accolades at the 2025 Annual Bankers’ Awards held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Mestil Hotel in Kampala.
The institution took home the Best Customer Experience Award, the Best Short Skills Program Award, and the Best Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Program Award, earning praise from sector leaders for its commitment to service excellence and professional growth.
Speaking at the ceremony, UGAFODE Chief Executive Officer Shafi Nambobi said the awards reflect the organisation’s unwavering dedication to customer-centred banking.
“These awards reflect our commitment to putting the customer at the heart of everything we do. They are a testament to the resilience and hard work of our staff, the trust of our customers, and the strategic leadership guiding our institution,” Nambobi said.
He added that the recognition is grounded in a service culture driven by empathy, integrity and innovation.
The Best Customer Experience Award recognises the strides UGAFODE has made in improving service delivery, reducing turnaround times, and ensuring consistent, high-quality support across its growing branch network.
The Short Skills Program Award highlights the institution’s investment in targeted, practical training interventions to enhance staff competence, while the CPD Program Award honours UGAFODE’s structured, year-round approach to professional development, designed to keep staff equipped with the skills needed to meet evolving customer needs.
Industry leaders at the event applauded UGAFODE for setting a strong benchmark in staff development, a pillar they described as critical for responsible and sustainable growth in the microfinance sector.
UGAFODE’s Board of Directors, shareholders and development partners also commended management and staff for steering the institution toward excellence while expanding its reach among underserved communities. The institution continues to serve low-income households, savings groups, refugees and micro-entrepreneurs - segments often left out of mainstream banking.
In its message of appreciation, UGAFODE extended gratitude to partners, customers and stakeholders for their continued support throughout the institution’s transformation journey.
“Our customers remain the reason we exist. Their trust inspires us to innovate, train and evolve. These achievements belong to them as much as they belong to us,” Nambobi said.
UGAFODE reiterated its commitment to expanding accessible and inclusive financial solutions as it continues to grow its footprint across Uganda.
