KAMPALA - Prominent Kampala businessman and honorary Consul of Namibia to Uganda, Godfrey Kirumira, has been recognised by the Public Opinion International Journal as Uganda’s development champion.
Kirumira, popularly known as ‘Chairman’ in the business world, is set to be inducted into this year’s Uganda Development Champions Journal for his notable contributions to Uganda's social and economic development.
Known for his diversified business empire in sectors like petroleum, transport, real estate, and education, Kirumira is recognised as a key figure in Uganda's business landscape.
The chairman of the famous Kwagalana Group, comprising Uganda’s top businesspeople and patron of the Kampala City Traders’ Association (KACITA), Kirumira, as honorary consul, is also working to foster stronger bilateral relations between Uganda and Namibia and promote cross-border economic ties.
In 2024, Kirumira was one of the 74 Ugandan leaders who were recognised by the Public Opinion as Development Champions for their exceptional contributions to achieving Uganda Vision 2040 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. He was described as a philanthropist, business magnate, and diplomat.
The journal that Friday sent the communication to Kirumira stated that he was being recognised for his tireless efforts in transforming Uganda's economy through his various business ventures and philanthropic initiatives.
“He has established a good working relationship with the NRM (National Resistance Movement) Government and has scooped numerous awards from different parts of Uganda, making a competent person to serve as an Honorary Consul General,” the journal stated in the message sent to him.
It stated that Kirumira, as a businessman and entrepreneur, has made significant contributions to the country's development through his diverse business empire.
“His ventures span across various sectors, including real estate development, general trading, import and export, education, and petroleum. Through his businesses, Kirumira has created employment opportunities for Ugandans and contributed to the country's economic growth. Congratulations H.E. Godfrey Kirumira,” the messages read in part.
When contacted, Kirumira said, “I believe this recognition is because of my consistency in business. I am proud to be part of Uganda’s economic progress, and I know the sky is the limit. I thank God for this achievement.”
