Two staff of Obongi District Local Government were on Thursday afternoon arraigned
before the Anti-Corruption Court on charges of abuse of office and embezzlement and remanded to Luzira prison.

The two were arrested after the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) working with Police’s Criminal Investigations Directorate launched a probe after them together with Obongi Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Andrew Leru allegedly embezzled over shillings 100 million meant for pensioners and salary earners in the district.

SHACU in a statement released May 8, 2024, noted that “this afternoon, working with CID, we have arraigned two Obongi District Local Government officials before the Anti-Corruption Court on charges of Abuse of Office and Embezzlement.

The officials are; the Senior Human Resource Officer- Gobe Rasul Burhan and the then Acting Chief Finance Officer- Alfred Adaku,” SHACU said.

SHACU noted that the two, together with the Chief Administrative Officer, who is still at large, in the alleged abuse of their authority, embezzled over shillings 100 million by irregularly making overpayments to pensioners and existing salary earners in the district, after which they would demand a refund of the overpaid amount.

SHACU said after the commencement of the investigations, all the money was recovered and paid to the recovery account of the government.
