President Museveni donates sh500m to Mothers Union-Buganda SACCO

The President, according to a release from the Office of the Prime Minister, also urged mothers in the country to tirelessly nurture their children by instilling in them values so that they become patriotic Ugandans.

President Yoweri Museveni has urged women in Uganda to boost their business growth by taking advantage of various programs introduced by Government.

“The NRM government recognises the significant contribution of women in the development of our nation. For that reason, we have prioritised women empowerment and diversification of women entrepreneurship sources by establishing women projects in skilling and boosting their business through the GROW financing initiative,” said Museveni.

His message is contained in the speech delivered on his behalf by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja to hundreds at the closure of the Buganda annual mothers’ Union conference.

The meeting was held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Kabulasoke Primary Teachers College in Gomba district.

As a start pack, the President donated sh500 million seed capital towards the Buganda Mothers Union Cooperative Society Savings, Credit and Cooperative (SACCO) limited to help them improve their household incomes.

The President, according to a release from the Office of the Prime Minister, also urged mothers in the country to tirelessly nurture their children by instilling in them values so that they become patriotic Ugandans.

“I encourage you to teach your children the value of being hardworking, honest and trustworthy to enable Uganda to be corruption-free,” said Museveni.

The three-day conference held under the theme “Being a woman of value” attracted members from Mothers Unions under the Church of Uganda.

Appreciating the organisers for choosing what he described as a relevant theme; “Being a woman of value”, the President added, "I’m' optimistic that deliberations from this discussion will greatly alter the mindset and way of life of many women".

The Bishop of Central Buganda Diocese, Mike Lubowa, who presided over the service assisted by Bishop Emeritus Central Buganda George Ssenabulya, asked Ugandans to rally behind President Yoweri Museveni for the continuity of development in the country.

The president of the Buganda region Mothers Union, Josephine Kasaato, lauded President Museveni for supporting women's emancipation efforts in the country.

“Deliver our heartfelt appreciation to His Excellency President Yoweri Museveni for empowering women, more especially the mothers who are key in the socio-economic transformation of the country,” said Kasaato.

She promised to ensure that the money is put to proper use by the mothers to have a multiplier effect.
