🔊 Police in Hoima asked to halt division headquarters construction

In a special council meeting in Hoima city, authorities have agreed that Police halts the construction of Hoima west division Police headquarters to allow the city to follow the normal procedure in acquiring the land.

The resolution was reached at during the meeting held at Hoima HB Hotel on Tuesday.

The special meeting followed a row over the demolition of a structure which police was constructing at Kibingo Hoima west division headquarters on the orders of Hoima city Town clerk.

Joshua Byenkya, the councilor for Hoima west division revealed that the said land was given to Police by the Hoima west division executive but not sanctioned by the Council.

It was at that point that the Hoima City speaker Edward Businge who chaired the meeting tasked Robert Ruhigwa, the Hoima west division mayor to explain how they gave out land. Ruhigwa admitted that they gave the land to police as executive not Council.

Brian Kaboyo, the lord mayor Hoima city said in the next council, he will ask the council “to tentatively allow the police to keep peace with the residents by continuing to rent.

The meeting agreed that Police halts the construction to allow Hoima city to follow the normal procedure in acquiring the said land.
