The much-coveted Nyege Nyege Festival is back in its ninth edition, slated for November 14 to 17, at the Source of the Nile, Jinja.

In a press release issued by Talent Africa, on Friday, May 24, the music and arts festival will, this time, run under the theme Afrogalactic Carnival, "that will aim to combine future forward music with ancestral traditions, highlighting Uganda’s natural beauty and rich tapestry of cultures." Said the organisers

The festival also, once again, seeks to showcase the diversity of Ugandan traditional music with traditional acts coming from all over the country.

Festival co-founder Derek Debru added that: “Nyege Nyege aims to reflect Uganda’s hospitality and cultural diversity, advocating for peace and an insatiable thirst for a good time, which is the exact definition of Nyege Nyege in Uganda."

The organisers, in partnership with Explore Uganda, added that currently, representation at the festival will include curated showcases from Sudan, South Africa, Ivory Coast, the DR Congo, India and Brazil, as well as all East African countries and special partnerships with cultural organisations representing all parts of Uganda.

"The 2024 event will feature a special showcase from Sudanese artistes in exile that is being curated in partnership with Kampala-based Sudanese artists. Thanks to their government’s support, Brazil and the UK will also be heavily featured in this year’s program," added Debru.
