The two-day Musevenomics Conference 2025, organised by the Uganda Development Forum (UDF) and partners, has kicked off at Mestil Hotel in Kampala.

Various speakers are lined up on a packed programme of discussions.

The event is being held under the theme 'Sustaining Musevenomics: Navigating Uganda's economic future in a disrupted world'.

Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba, the Deputy Governor of Bank of Uganda, is set to chair the opening ceremony session that will feature finance minister Matia Kasaija and UDF chairperson Gen. Salim Saleh.

Other key sessions will tackle value addition and industrialisation, cost of doing business, inclusive development as well as Uganda's economy amid global disruptions.

President Yoweri Museveni is expected to close the conference on Friday with a keynote address.

The Musevenomics Conference comes at a time when Uganda is midway through its Vision 2040, and it coincides with the initiation of the National Development Plan IV.

This year marks the beginning of a significant growth agenda aimed at increasing the country's GDP from $50 billion to $500 billion.

Uganda is presented with various opportunities, including rising revenues from coffee and gold, increased remittances, enhanced investments in the oil sector, stable macroeconomic conditions, and a sustained period of national security.

However, the East African nation also faces numerous challenges at national, regional, and global levels.

These include;

▪️ Regional security threats

▪️ Shifts in global trade policies characterized by unilateralism

▪️ Ongoing conflicts in various regions

▪️ Disruptions in global value chains and logistics

▪️ Declining development aid amid rising costs of global finance

▪️ Persistent health threats such as HIV &AIDS, COVID-19 and Ebola.

In moments like those described above, the country’s best brains in policy, practice, CSOs and academia must convene to draw lessons from history to inform current and future strategies.

This is the core of the Musevenomics Conference 2025.

The main objective of the conference is to create a shared understanding of the principles of Musevenomics and their application within Uganda’s current economic context.

The specific objectives are;

▪️ To enhance appreciation of Musevenomics and its contribution to Uganda’s economic development trajectory.

▪️ To assess the relevance and applicability of Musevenomics principles in today’s rapidly changing global economic environment

▪️ To develop actionable recommendations for accelerating Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.

Throughout the two-day event, digital displays will highlight successful projects implemented under Musevenomics across various sectors of the Ugandan economy.

Organisers said comprehensive documentation of all presentations, panel discussions, and question-and-answer sessions will be compiled and made available to all participants within two weeks following the conference.

On research, selected papers and presentations from the conference will be developed into a scholarly publication analysing the Musevenomics framework and its applications across various sectors of Uganda's economy.
