Youth affairs state minister Balaam Barugahara has urged industrial workers to desist from subversive actions that may cause losses to their employers and lead to the collapse of businesses.
Barugahara, over the weekend, urged the industrial workers to support their employers so that the companies grow: "You should always support your companies so they expand and employ your unemployed relatives."
Barugahara, on a National Resistance Movement party mobilisation tour in Luwero district, made the remarks while meeting Victoria Sugar Works (VSW) employees.
The Saturday, September 13, 2025, meeting took place at the company's premises at Ndibulungi after Luwero town on the Luweero-Nakasongola highway.
Sugar producer hailed
Barugahara hailed the sugar-producing firm for contributing to Uganda's development by providing jobs to the citizens and paying taxes to the Government.
He said the three-year-old company had created a social economic impact despite its short period of existence.
Sugar factory operations manager Nasif Ismael had earlier said the company was directly and indirectly employing over 10,000 Ugandans as workers, outgrowers and service providers.
Ismael had also said VSW was paying shs 2bn in VAT taxes monthly.
On the corporate social responsibility side, Ismael said VSW had, among other activities, provided safe drinking water to the community, constructed roads and built a community school.
Barugahara urged the neighbouring communities to support VSW so that it acquires more capacity to provide more opportunities to Ugandans.
Barugahare also advised the predominantly youth workers to desist from irresponsible sexual behaviour that might expose them to unwanted pregnancies and diseases like HIV/AIDS.
Embrace government programmes
The workers were urged to ensure that they embrace the numerous government anti-poverty programmes, like the Parish Development Model, in order to supplement their salaries.
In the coming general elections, Barugahare advised the youths to vote for President Yoweri Museveni and other NRM flag bearers.
Luweero Triangle state minister Alice Kaboyo advise the workers to desist from engaging in subversive actions that may lead to the destruction of the company's properties.
Kaboyo also advised the workers to start preparing for their future as family heads and mothers.
Also present was Kampala affairs state minister Kabuye kyofatogabye.
After the meeting, the ministers and their entourage were taken on a guided tour of the company premises.
