The racing competitions were organized by Al-Hassan Promotions Ltd as part of the pre-activities of the Busoga ku Ntiiko concert that drew local artists from all over Busoga to perform at the Sea-Ville Resort Hotel in Mayuge district on Sunday.

The race was conducted between two categories which included one between People with Disabilities and another which included senior riders, particularly men from various Busoga Cycling Clubs.

The PWDs cycling race was flagged off by the Third Deputy Premier Rukia Isanga Nakadama in Mayuge town council who also offered sh200,000 that was distributed among the winners in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions.

Persons with disabilities raced with their tri-cycles from the starting point at Mayuge Health Centre IV along the Jinja-Mayuge-Busia highway, via Mayuge town council to Maina trading centre and back amidst ululations from residents and boda riders who were trailing them from behind cheering on while holding tree branches.

Abdul from Mayuge town council won the PWDs category, Faisal Batandise a cobbler in Mayuge came in second position, and Girigiri Baliita from Buwaya sub-county in the third position.

In the senior Men’s race, cyclists raced from Mayuge Health Centre IV towards Mayuge town roundabout, off to Katwe Trading Centre, Bufulubi, Buyemba, Katwe, Musita, Mpungwe and back to Mayuge Health Centre IV.

The race was won by 22-year-old Abdul Maswaliki, followed by Men Kakaire in the second position, Farmer Shafiq in the third position, Tiff Luganda in fourth, and John Odoto in fifth. All winners got cash prizes.

“It was a nice race and the road terrain favoured me. I also advise fellow cyclists to do more training to improve their cycling talent,” Maswaliki said.
