Market Wrap: Stocks slow despite firm activity

Weekly equity trading on the Uganda Securities Exchange slid, with turnover falling to sh303.09m as 3.82 million shares changed hands, down from sh9.52b a week earlier, according to market data from Crested Capital.

The slowdown capped January on a softer note, even as full-month activity stayed relatively firm. Total turnover for January reached sh10.05b, with 74.05 million shares traded.

MTN generated sh108.6m from 331,030 shares, while Bank of Baroda (BOBU) closely followed with sh108.55m from 2.29 million shares.

Stanbic Holdings traded sh73.84m from 1.10 million shares. Airtel Uganda moved sh6.93m from 78,100 shares, dfcu Limited traded sh3.4m from 11,133 shares, and Quality Chemicals Limited exchanged sh1.73m from 14,800 shares.

Uganda Clays Limited traded sh16,381 from 3,270 shares, while Umeme recorded sh2,904 with 12 shares exchanged.

Share price performance

MTN advanced 11.80% to sh360. Stanbic gained 3.96% to sh67.50, Airtel Uganda added 1.14% to sh89, and Quality Chemicals Limited edged up 0.46% to sh117.
