The Liaoshen Industrial Park in Kapeeka is celebrating 10 years since its establishment in 2015.
The complex currently has 34 factories with a target of 80 at full capacity.
The guests at the anniversary event, held at Namunkekera (Kyondo LCI) in Nakaseke District, on Saturday, attracted a wide range of dignitaries, including the Chinese Ambassador in Uganda, Zhang Lizhong, government officials, members of Parliament, private sector players, senior military officers, local leaders and students from local schools.
The chief guest for the celebration is General Salim Saleh, who is widely regarded as the architect behind the creation of the industrial park.
In a brief interview, the Industrial Park General Manager, Shadia Nampomba, highlighted the positive impact the industrial park has had on both the local community and the country at large over the past decade.
She noted that the industrial complex has created numerous jobs, improved infrastructure, supported the government’s import substitution efforts, boosted Uganda’s export capacity and significantly increased land value in the surrounding area.
Nabbumba remarked that before the park was established, an acre of land in the area sold for between 500,000 and 2 million shillings, but today the same land costs between 150 and 200 million shillings, a clear demonstration of the economic transformation the park has brought.
Product exhibition
During the celebration, more than 34 factories operating within the industrial park showcased a wide range of products manufactured locally.
These included: soap, cooking oil, textiles such as curtains, electrical equipment including televisions, and value-added agricultural goods like processed fruits, including pineapples and mangoes. The exhibitions reflected the progress of the park over its ten years of existence and its contribution to Uganda’s growing industrial sector.
