Most people dream of owning a home in their lifetime. However, one cannot just build a house and leave it empty. They must turn it into a home by adding colour and interior furnishings to it.

Buying quality furniture for your sitting, dining and bedrooms adds colour to your living space.

Erling Kizito of Inspiring Interiors says in 2024, a homeowner can choose to try out customised furniture by tasking carpenters and interior designers to make sofas using upholstered fabric and leather.

“One can order for shelves, beds, dining tables, lamp sheds and a lot more so as to give their interiors a fresh and beautiful look and feel.

“It takes a standard furniture shop to manufacture customised furniture. Sometimes we import some of the fabric we use from Australia and China while the rest is sourced from our local leather industry here in Uganda,” Kizito says.

Mercy Uwase, a procurement manager and sales executive at Fujian Industries Park Limited, says there are new products in home and office furniture like doors, kitchen units, dining tables, sofa sets, filing cabinets, electricity accessories and schools/office desks on the market at the moment that can make a décor statement to any living space. Many of the products in Uganda now are manufactured using local wood from within the country and are customised accordingly.

To complement on furniture, Cynthia Claire Kirabo an administrator at Graite Interiors, says a homeowner who wants a beautiful interior must fish for finishing and furnishing antiques to be used and designed together to create beauty.

“You can paint and tile your home so as to blend the colours with any other accessories in the room like curtains and furniture. Those with small spaces can design a chair that doubles as a bed and decorate the space with whatever item they desire; which includes carpets and deco items,” Kirabo says.
