Kenya is set to celebrate East Africa’s most impactful businesses and leaders at the 9th edition of the Pacesetters International Awards (PIA), scheduled for September 12, 2025, in Nairobi.

The prestigious gala will recognise small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), startups, and leaders who have gone beyond profit-making to transform society through innovation, corporate social responsibility (CSR), sustainability, and visionary leadership.

“We are not just rewarding success in numbers. We are celebrating companies and individuals who have set new standards by using business as a tool for growth, resilience, and positive social impact,” said Jared Oundo, Executive Director of Jubilant Stewards of Africa (JSA), the organisers of the awards.

The awards seek to recognise businesses in the EAC region that drive innovation through technology and creative solutions, while also championing CSR by investing in communities, education, health, and the environment.

They also honour organisations that promote sustainability and inclusivity in their operations, demonstrate resilience in challenging economic conditions while sustaining jobs, and exemplify ethical leadership that inspires transformation within their industries. Oundo emphasised that companies excelling in CSR and technology-driven solutions are likely to stand out in this year’s edition.

Over the years, the Pacesetters International Awards have honoured some of East Africa’s most recognisable brands, including Safaricom, Nation Media Group, Ena Coach, Brighter Monday, University of Nairobi, Kevian Kenya Ltd, and Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital. This year, new entrants such as TV 47, Radio 47, and Shian Tours & Travels Ltd are expected to feature among the nominees.

The gala will also bring together influential CEOs, media personalities, and entertainers.

Among them are Paul Russo, CEO of KCB Group PLC, Jeff Koinange, Zubeidah Kananu, Yvonne Okwara, and comedians Churchill Ndambuki and Eric Omondi.

Beyond the awards ceremony, the 2025 event will feature keynote speeches, panel discussions, and networking sessions designed to explore Africa’s business future.

Key topics will include digital transformation, sustainable business models, economic resilience, and investment opportunities for SMEs.

The gathering is expected to attract hundreds of entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, and industry experts, making it one of the most important platforms for knowledge-sharing and partnership-building in the region.

Speaking ahead of the event, Oundo urged governments across Africa to support the SME sector by making it easier for businesses to access affordable credit and by introducing policies that promote a more enabling business environment. He stressed that SMEs are the engine of Africa’s economy and that recognising their efforts is a powerful way of encouraging growth and innovation.

Ultimately, the Pacesetters International Awards celebrate businesses that go beyond profit to create meaningful impact.

By rewarding organisations and leaders who serve humanity, sustain livelihoods, and inspire change, the awards reaffirm the role of SMEs and startups in shaping the future of Africa’s economy and society.
