Govt asked to give more priority to the fisheries sector

According to the fact sheet, fish catches in Uganda increased from 307,149 metric tonnes in the financial year 2018/19 to 606,220 metric tonnes in 2020, with fish exports increasing from 14,894 to 37,048 metric tonnes valued at $227 million (about sh838.8 billion).

Fish has long been a hidden gem in Uganda’s agriculture sector. According to the agriculture ministry, it contributes 3% to the national gross domestic product (GDP) and 12% to the agriculture sector GDP.
