Glovo, one of the leading technological platforms connecting customers, businesses, and riders, has announced a significant milestone in its partnership with community-based organisation Haba Na Haba.

By leveraging Glovo’s technology and extensive courier network, the partnership has successfully rescued and distributed over 2.7million meals to food-insecure communities since its inception in March 2024.

At the heart of the partnership is Haba Na Haba’s innovative food rescue model from local markets, which has significantly scaled its impact in the fight against food insecurity and waste.

This rescued food is then swiftly distributed to beneficiaries on the same day, ensuring that nutritious meals reach those who need them most while drastically reducing food waste.

"Our technology was built to connect people with possibilities, and our partnership with Haba Na Haba is one of the most powerful examples of this mission in action,” Ivy Maingi, the general manager of Glovo Uganda, noted.

She emphasised that surpassing 2.7 million meals is not just a number; it represents their commitment to the communities where they operate and showcases how tech can be a powerful force for social good.

The partnership reached during World Food Day, celebrated every 16th of October, has been instrumental in the rapid growth of Haba Na Haba's operations, enabling the organisation to expand its delivery network from an initial nine routes to 27 routes currently, with continued growth.

"This achievement is a testament to the power of collaboration. The support from Glovo has been a game-changer, allowing us to more than triple our reach and ensure that good food nourishes people instead of ending up in landfills," Jessica Bagenda, Co-Founder at Haba Na Haba, said.

She added that every meal represents a family supported and a step towards a more sustainable future, though the need is still great.

The program's rapid growth has also highlighted the immense potential to do more. Haba Na Haba has confirmed that the volume of food donations available from local markets exceeds what its current volunteer capacity can manage, and is making a call for more community involvement.
