The former Maracha district service commission chairperson has refused to hand over office keys over one year after he was replaced.

Elly Ajifura has vowed not to hand over the office keys in his possession until the district clears his outstanding arrears.

It’s now over a year since Ajifura’s term of office expired but he has been holding keys to his former office claiming unpaid arrears amounting to sh1.79m.

However, in the recent district council held on Wednesday this week, some councilors expressed dismay over the actions of the former chairperson of the district service commission.

They want Ajifura to hand over the keys and follow up his claims thereafter saying he is punishing the district that had given him the job opportunity.

William Drimbaku, chairperson social and community services committee says, the actions of the former district service commission chairperson are procedurally not within the law and tantamount to abuse of office.

He wants the district to take a stance on him should he continue to defy the repeated calls for the return of the keys.

Bosco Asea, the vice LC5 chairman and the leader of government business in Maracha district Council explains that, much as the district is committed to paying the claims, all along they have been dealing with a resistant former district chairperson in getting back the keys.

When contacted, Elly Ajifura lashed out at the district and the describes the acts of the district as mean.

He said, during their earlier discussion with the district officials, they promised to clear him this financial year which should have been in July but since they he has not received any communication from them.

He argued that,it is the obligation of the district to clear her debts and he is ready to hand over the keys and other items of the district in his possession once they inform him that all arrangements are ready to have him cleared of his arrears.
