The Chairperson of Nakawa Entrepreneurs,‎ Faith Katanka, says they are unveiling Uganda Chamber of Commerce and Entrepreneurs League Confederation (UCCEC) to unite entrepreneurs.

According to Katanak, the current Chamber of Commerce has been personalised, with the interests of the business community sidelined, hence limiting their potential to facilitate and promote business partnerships.

Speaking to the New Vision, she explained that the new Chamber offers a platform for all sectors including Agriculture and Fisheries, Tourism and logistical businesses, and Agricultural processing, among others to showcase their potential to support economic growth.

“We are starting UCCEC because we want the voices of entrepreneurs to be heard at a higher level. The current chamber is individualised and we think it limits our ability to interact with investors locally and regionally, which is good for our economy,” Katanak said.

Uganda Chamber of Commerce and Entrepreneurs League Confederation (UCCEC) is being revamped with a new and revolving team that is dynamic and forward-thinking while tackling the challenges faced by business owners, investors and traders including young entrepreneurs operating in today’s modern marketplace that is changing daily.

The Chamber also seeks to shine a spotlight on inspirational and innovative companies across the globe, enriching Uganda and all the members of the chamber, making Uganda extremely conducive and a great place for business, trade and investments.

“UCCEC is working towards being the largest business network in Uganda, having accredited supportive networking Chambers in different countries actively working together with businesses and members to help grow and develop individuals and the economy of Uganda at large.”

UCCEC is open for partnerships and collaborations with both local and foreign companies, public and private entities. Through beneficial partnerships, UCCEC’s objectives shall be achieved.

When contacted, the President of the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UNCCI), Olive Kigongo, noted that Uganda is a liberal economy and everyone by law, is allowed to start whatever organisation they want.

She explained that the UNCCI is a membership organisation that continues to front the interests of its members and not individuals, as claimed, adding that it has been in existence for more than 90 years.

“Whosever feels aggrieved should come to the chamber and get support if they are our members. We work for our members and this is not for monetary benefits but to help our entrepreneurs to thrive,” Kigongo noted.
