Centenary Bank has appointed Godfrey Byekwaso to replace the long-serving Managing Director Fabian Kasi, who has been in the position for 16 years.
Byekwaso will take over as the new Managing Director of Centenary Bank in July. He served as Deputy Managing Director beginning in 2023 and brings over 26 years of progressive experience in banking and finance, including 11 years with Centenary Rural Development Bank in Uganda.
As a new Managing Director, Byekwaso will oversee all bank operations, ensure the execution of strategic goals, and maintain commitment to excellence and innovation.
According to information on the Centenary Bank website, Byekwaso holds a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Commerce from Makerere University.
He is a fellow of the Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda. He has attended a number of Leadership development programs at Strathmore University Business School, including the Advanced Management Program.
The statement from the bank indicates that before joining the Centenary Group in 2013, he worked as Regional Finance Manager at FINCA International from 2009 to 2012. The position involved overseeing multi-country financial operations.
In 2004-2007, Byekwaso served as finance and administration manager at FINCA Uganda.
On other experiences, Byekwaso worked as a board member and chair of the operations committee at the Bankers Association of Malawi.
He was also a member of the finance council of the Archdiocese of Lilongwe in Malawi.
Byekwaso holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting, both from Makerere University.
He is also a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA), a certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a graduate of the CEO apprenticeship program at Strathmore Business School and CEO Summit Uganda.
