The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, has lauded PostBank Uganda (soon to be Pearl Bank) for its role in promoting financial inclusion and economic empowerment across the country.
The Archbishop made the remarks during a courtesy visit from the Bank’s leadership team at the Provincial Office in Namirembe. This visit builds on an earlier engagement in August 2024, when Archbishop Kaziimba met with PostBank Managing Director Julius Kakeeto and laid the groundwork for a strategic partnership rooted in shared values and long-term impact.
Strengthening financial security for clergy and church communities
During the latest meeting, both the Church of Uganda and PostBank reiterated their commitment to a partnership designed to enhance financial literacy and stability for bishops, clergy, and the wider church community.
PostBank, currently undergoing a rebrand to become Pearl Bank, emphasised its intention to co-create tailored financial solutions with the Church. These efforts aim to promote responsible financial management, provide retirement security, and preserve the dignity of those who have faithfully served in ministry.
“The Church has always been an instrumental pillar in shaping our faith, and we applaud the Archbishop for his oversight and leadership,” said Martin Mugisha, Executive Director of Operations at PostBank.
“When he visited us last year, he highlighted the need for sustainable financial solutions for the clergy, and we responded,” he added.
A shared mission to transform lives
Archbishop Kaziimba praised the Bank’s commitment and confirmed the Church’s focus on transforming communities holistically.
“The Church is committed to transforming lives spiritually, socially, and economically,” he said. “With support like yours, we can bring about meaningful change whether through education, empowerment, or pastoral care.”
He also noted the significance of the Bank’s hospitality during his 2024 visit.
“You not only welcomed us warmly but also shared a vision that aligns with our ministry to uplift, to serve, and to transform lives,” he said.
“The journey ahead requires joint effort, compassion, and leadership. Let us not only promise transformation so let us live it,” the Archbishop noted.
Investing in the future of clergy
As part of the partnership, PostBank has committed annual seed capital over the next five years to support initiatives focused on improving the financial well-being of clergy and Church members. This effort aligns with the Bank’s broader purpose of fostering prosperity for all Ugandans.
