The Africa Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) is searching for project development partners for its multi-billion Africa Trade Center in the heart of Kampala.

In October 2022, the government of Uganda granted Afreximbank a 2.43-acre piece of land in Kampala to build the Afreximbank Africa Trade Centre (AATC).

“Afreximbank hereby invites expressions of interest from reputable, experienced and suitably qualified property funds, debt and equity investors, real estate developers and contractors,” a January 10 notice from Afreximbank read in part.

Adding: “Afreximbank seeks partners to, inter alia, fully or partially finance, develop, design, build/construct, own and transfer, leases, operate and maintain the trade center.”

The 37,000 square meter mixed complex will be located at Nakasero in central Kampala. The trade centre shall comprise the Afrieximbank East African regional offices, rentable office space, a five-star 180-room aparthotel, conference and exhibition halls, and restaurants among others.

Speaking at the handover of the land last year, finance minister Matia Kasaija noted that: “The Government of Uganda is pleased to host the Regional Branch office for Afreximbank. We look forward to a stronger partnership in development of the economic status of this great nation.”

Afreximbank President Prof. Benedict Oramah said “the economic impact it will bring and the opportunities it will create, will justify the sacrifices made.”

The infrastructure will facilitate the flow of trade information and provide trade services across the East Africa Region.
