Over 500 social entrepreneurs are set to converge for the 5th Annual Social Entrepreneurship Symposium, to be hosted by the SEF Social Entrepreneurship Association in Uganda in partnership with Capital Solutions Limited.
The symposium, which is set to spotlight inclusion, climate action, and digital innovation, will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at the Egret Skilling Hub in Kajjansi under the theme: “Re-shaping the Future: Social Entrepreneurship, Inclusion and Climate Action.”
Dr Joyce Tamale, Capital Solutions’ Executive Director, the organisers, said that this year’s edition will be a hybrid event, expected to attract over 500 participants.
“Discussions will focus on climate financing, NGO restructuring, and digital innovation to drive inclusion and sustainability,” she said in a statement.
She added that since its inception in July 2021, the symposium has brought together more than 250 social businesses from diverse sectors, including Education, Health, Agriculture, Tourism and Hospitality, Energy, and Fashion.
“Over the years, it has grown into one of Uganda’s premier platforms for advancing social enterprise, innovation, and community-driven impact,” she noted.
Dr Tamale added that one of the much-anticipated sessions will be “Embracing Digital Technology in Scaling Your Social Enterprise.”
“This discussion will highlight how digital solutions can expand the reach, impact, and sustainability of social enterprises. A key case study in this area is the Digital Agripreneurship Innovation to Enhance Post-Pandemic Resilience among Refugee Women and Youth in Nakivale Refugee Settlement.”
The discussion will be led by a multidisciplinary team of researchers—Jean Gabin Ntebutse (Principal Investigator), Dr Angella Musiimenta, Jo-Anni Joncas, Aline Niyubahwe, Dr Joyce Tamale, Chantal Mutamuriza, and Anschaire Nikoyagize..
Dr Tamale has said that under the project, which has demonstrated the power of technology in transforming vulnerable communities, 258 refugee women and youth have been trained in digital literacy, agripreneurship, and soft skills, while receiving agricultural inputs and smartphones preloaded with training videos and infographics.
WhatsApp groups were also created to connect participants with trainers, ensuring continuous mentorship and peer learning.
“The project outcomes ranging from increased food production to improved digital skills, demonstrate how digital technology can scale opportunities, break barriers, and build resilience among underserved communities.”
She added that these lessons will feed into the symposium’s broader conversations on how Uganda’s social entrepreneurs can leverage digital tools to innovate, grow, and deliver greater social impact.
The 5th Annual Social Entrepreneurship Symposium promises to be a milestone gathering championing inclusion, resilience, and climate action while celebrating the transformative role of social enterprises in shaping Uganda’s future.
