This whole week, both social media and mainstream media have been awash with excitement and misinformation on the exaggerated importance of the Geneva Summit 2026 where the former Presidential flagbearer of National Unity Platform(NUP), Robert Kyaguranyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) made appearance full of rhetoric calling upon European Union countries and international community to sanction the National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders, especially the President Elect, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa and his family members.
This was a waste of time! Why? The composition of the Geneva Summit is merely a conference of sorts that brings together Civil society activists, Non-Governmental Organisation (NGOs) workers from across the world, especially Africans, to lament on how things are not working the way they should be working. The Summit is a scheme for activists to get funding in disguise!
The resolutions of this Summit hold no individual or any country and its leaders accountable! It only excites and confuses the ignorant or naive Africans, like how some Ugandans got excited! However, this excitement will burn out in two weeks, and life will continue!
Besides, Bobi's presentation was equally full of rhetoric, and no sensible person can take his rants seriously!
The same applies to the European Union Parliament sending summons to the Ugandan ambassador in Brussels to come and address them on the status of human rights in Uganda! This too holds no water! The EU parliament is just a bunch of confused human beings who don't even know where their mandate starts and stops!
It has no mandate to summon an ambassador of a sovereign Country like Uganda, and therefore, they are just looking for relevance!
Ugandans have since then moved on with their day-to-day businesses.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa will, in May 2026, officially swear in uninterrupted for another five-year term of office, 2026/2031.
Social economic transformation is top agenda as Ugandans continue protecting the gains.
