PICTORIAL: Teachers celebrate World teachers’ day

The World teachers' day normally takes place on October 5, but Uganda postponed the celebrations to October 12 because President Yoweri Museveni, who was invited as the chief guest, was out of the country (in UAE) for official duties.

The Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU) used Tuesday’s celebrations of the world teachers’ day to table a number of demands to the Government, including the need to cure salary disparities in public service.

The World teachers' day normally takes place on October 5, but Uganda postponed the celebrations to October 12 because President Yoweri Museveni, who was invited as the chief guest, was out of the country (in UAE) for official duties.

Speaking on behalf of teachers at Kololo Independence Grounds, the general secretary of UNATU, Filbert Baguma, also called upon the education ministry to automate the pension and gratuity payment process to enable retired teachers to access their cash.
