As NRM, our party chairman is the chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). This puts Uganda in a unique position because it has to help the marginalized countries,” Towdong said.

KAMPALA - The National Resistance Movement (NRM) secretary General Richard Todwong has said the party is set to sign a cooperation agreement with Venezuela.

During a meeting with the envoy on Monday at the NRM secretariat in Kyadondo a Kampala suburb, Todwong said just like any other country or organization, the NRM party, is to sign a cooperation agreement with Venezuela following the establishment of their Embassy in Uganda last month.

“Venezuela is a country undergoing a lot of threats by the West and most especially the Americans. They are being sanctioned, there is a lot of blockading around them and they are looking for friends who can help them, speak for them, and understand them.

As NRM, our party chairman is the chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). This puts Uganda in a unique position because it has to help the marginalized countries,” Towdong said.

“The NRM party signs memorandums of Understanding (MoU)with many of the countries because they help the NRM party and the country cooperate in areas in which Uganda has mutual understanding and support,”

Locally, Todwong added the party will continue signing cooperation agreements with Uganda political parties.

“We have signed a cooperation agreement with the Democratic Party (DP). We are working closely with the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) and at the moment NRM is still chairing the Interparty Organisation for Dialogue (IPOD) we believe that Uganda is big enough to accommodate all of us.

We need to agree that people disagree with one another but this does not mean that we should hate one another that why we have tried to bring everybody on board to love one another,” Todwong said adding that disagreeing with the government does not mean that you should hate your country.

He also revealed that the party has developed strong relationships with many revolutionary parties in the world adding that the party is strongly engaged with the African block, Todwong said.

“The coming of these envoys strongly speaks to the importance of the NRM because of NRM, we interact freely with people who come to interact with our doctrine of leadership.

Our doctrine is well defined in the policy statements of the party that we seek to serve the masses and we galvanize support based on the universal need of the people,”

Todwong said adding that the party looks at Human needs as centre of gravity.
“NRM party does not look at politics in terms of religion, any other social creed but we look at politics as a must service delivery,” Todwong said.

He congratulated Venezuela for setting up an embassy in Uganda adding that it has been only one month since they set up an embassy in Uganda but they felt it necessary that they come and register and cooperate with the party.

Ambassador  Juarez said because of the USA’s sanctions Venezuela has failed to sell its oil to other countries adding that they need countries that they need to work with and also trade with.

“We would like to work with Uganda and also sign an MoU with them.  We admire the courage and good leadership of President Museveni,” Juarez said.
