Looming end of tea industry in Uganda: What does it mean to the economy?
For long, tea has been the leading traditional export commodity and foreign exchange earner after coffee. However, due to the crisis, it has slipped from this position. Based on export statistics from the Bank of Uganda, on average, the monthly export revenue from tea declined from $7.4m in 2018 to $5m in 2024, and the trend is continuing.
