Father’s Day is around the corner, and it is a good chance to celebrate the fathers in our lives.

Gifting fathers can be a bit challenging but with good planning, one can get an appropriate gift.

Angel Mugabi of Organza says that when buying a gift for your father, first consider your budget.

“It helps when you have a range within which to spend. A good gift does not need to be extremely expensive but comfortable and affordable,” she says.

Secondly, consider the father’s personality to help guide the choice of gift. Lastly, lifestyle should be a guiding factor, to get a useful gift.

“It is always better to give a gift someone can use daily as a reminder of you other than one they will store away and forget because it does not fit in their lifestyle,” she says.

The 20s

A father in his twenties is still young and active. Get him something exciting like a pair of cool shades, and a wallet. You can also get him a gadget like the latest laptop or the latest play station.

Get him a gym bag, a pair of shorts, a sports kit, or a nice piece of jewellery he will wear daily.

The 30s

In his 30s a father is most probably in the corporate or business world. They are building their career and spend a lot of their time at the office or in their business.

So, you can get him a set of a nice set of parker pens and a diary.

Also, get him things to adorn his office like a beautiful frame with his family, a desk clock, a globe, a nice leather laptop bag, or a phone stand to carry his accessories.

“For convenience get him a travel mug in which to take his coffee on the go, a suit career, or a phone stand to place his accessories,” he says.

The 40s

Fathers in their age group are keen on grooming so get a spa treatment.

“Buy him a nice whiskey flask he can use, his favourite brand of scotch, whiskey, or wine,” Mugabi says.

Other options are a pair of nice boots, a cool leather jacket, leather sandals for an easy weekend, or a designer watch if you have the funds.

“For his wardrobe get him suspenders, or armbands, his favourite perfume, cologne, and a tool kit for the handy dad,” she adds.

The 50s and 60s

Mugabi says that fathers in this age group are starting to wind down in life.

“They love to travel, host or spend time with their friends. So, get him a portrait of himself he can hang in the house. A set of ashtrays, a collection of wines and drinks nice travel bag or cooling box for his escapades is also a brilliant gift idea,” she says.

Other options are a recording camera for him to film memories and a hat to shield him from the sun when he travels.

A good book, like an interesting biography, is an excellent choice if he loves reading it because he is more settled and has time to read.

If he is a music lover get him an old music selection, he will enjoy.

The 70s and 80s

At this time, fathers appreciate being surrounded by family so involve them in the gift. It can be a simple family lunch or taking him out to his favourite restaurant.

“Get him comfortable orthopedic shoes or a rocking chair and a nice fleece blanket to keep him warm or an artistic walking stick.

Packaging

A good gift needs good packaging, to improve it. Lucia Okiriza the Team leader of Oribags Uganda says that gifting a father or guardian is special. Some people want the boxes customised in various shapes and sizes.

“People like talking gifts, so the packaging is personalised with the father’s favorite Bible verse, Quran quote, name, or photo. It can be in the shape of a heart, a dress, or whatever the gift giver wants to portray,” she says.
