May 03, 2024

According to him, because of a few corrupt officials in NRM, the party has lost credibility and people think everyone is corrupt and yet it is only a few selfish individuals.

Former Rubaga Division deputy Resident City Commissioner (RCC) Herbert Anderson Burora has formed a parallel National Resistance Movement (NRM) party wing.

Burora has named the breakaway group, which he says is intended to fight corruption ruining the party's image, as NRM in Resistance (NRM-IR).

According to him, because of a few corrupt officials in NRM, the party has lost credibility and people think everyone is corrupt and yet it is only a few selfish individuals.

Burora made the announcement while addressing the media last evening about his new formation.

He added that he is not doing this to attract the attention of anyone for a job because he resigned and he is not going back to work.

Burora later posted on X, formerly Twitter, saying: Every Generation has its own Challenges, in 1981 our Party Founding fathers of the NRM had challenges of Leadership that didn’t value citizens at the expense of Political interests, as a result, war was the decider.

"We’ve started a new trajectory under NRM-IR (National Resistance Movement (In Resistance) to Mobilise party members against corruption. Our Party shall not be drowned by a few people into the dungeons of shame, at our watch.

Many young people cannot join the party, because of corruption, impunity, and abuse of office. It is from this day that we choose to resist the corrupt, to resist impunity, to resist abuse of power," part of the post reads.

Background

Before seeking early retirement from the Government service, Burora was suspended on March 15, 2024, by Hajji Yunus Kakande, the secretary in the Office of the President, to pave the way for investigations over his constant attacks on Speaker of Parliament Anita Among on social media.

In his letter to President Yoweri Museveni dated March 28, 2024, Burora asks to retire so that he doesn’t bring disrepute to the name of the President, his office, and the government.
