As Muslims around the world get set to celebrate Eid al-Fitr on Wednesday to mark the end of Ramadan, here in Uganda, the faithful have been urged to promote peace and unity in their respective communities.

During an Iftar dinner at his home in Wakiso, district kadhi Sheikh Erias Kigozi said the best way to solve fights is to sit, talk, resolve and live in harmony.

“You hear fights here and there, but as Muslims we need to reconcile, rally peace and also make developmental associations for the better prosperity of our religion and communities as well," he told his guests: Muslims based in Wakiso.

In his message, the host also urged Muslims to embrace Government programmes using their community associations and SACCOs to enable them to start different projects for socio-economic transformation.

Kigozi urged them to prioritize their family needs.

“During this saum [Ramadan], sheikhs have been busy sending duas to different families, but when I asked some whether they did the same at their homes, they couldn’t explain."

Tuesday completes the 30 days of Ramadan after the moon was not sighted on the evening of Monday, which meant that Eid would be celebrated on Wednesday.

During Monday's dinner, the RDC of Wakiso district, Justine Mbabazi, rallied Muslims to respect their leaders as well as to support the government for their sustainable growth.

She was not present but had her message read on her behalf by the Wakiso Police Division community liaison officer, Ali Kakooza.

Mbabazi asked Muslims to stop mixing politics with religion but rather move with the right leaders.

She urged people to steer well clear of "violence and sectarianism in your communities and promote security as well".
