KAMPALA - For farmers who have been decrying losses from rotting fruit, value addition offers a solution to their problem. Experts in value addition at the Harvest Money Expo offered answers to many a farmers’ questions.
After a light shower on Day Two of the Harvest Money Expo, the clouds slowly parted in anticipation of sunshine.
For expo-goers, this provided an opportunity to walk around Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in search of expert advice, good deals and useful networks. One of the exhibitors practising value addition at their stall is Blessed Wine, which produces wine from fruit.
Suzan Owomugisha said they make wine using bananas, pineapples, strawberries and mangoes.
She explained that to make red sweet wine, they use banana juice, strawberries, water, sugar and yeast. For white wine, she said they mix pineapple juice with yeast. Besides wine, she said they also make tamarind juice using tamarind, mango juice, sugar and water.
At only sh10,000 for the entrance fee, expo-goers were equipped with information, courtesy of Vision Group and its partners: Tunga Nutrition, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, ENGSOL, aBi, Pearl Bank, and Uganda Development Corporation, among others.
