IF you do not believe in dark-skinned black beauty, then you have not seen Genevieve Nnaji. Thanks to her, the words dark-skinned and divine can finally be used in one sentence. Even those who do not watch Nigerian movies know her name.

Nnaji is undoubtedly the most famous actress in contemporary cinema in Africa. Still doubt it? Read this: Celebrated American talk show queen â€“ cum actress, Oprah Winfrey, referred to her as the Julia Roberts of Africa.

Nnaji was featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show in the episode â€˜Meet the Most Famous People in the Worldâ€™.
Nnaji started her acting career as a child actress in the then popular television soap opera Ripples at the age of eight.

At the age of 19, she made her debut in the growing Nigerian film industry with the movie Most Wanted. She portrayed an upcoming actress, trying to create a life for herself.

Many young women look up to her because she managed to continue with her career after a teenage pregnancy. Nnaji was only 17 years when she had her daughter.

She does not talk about her daughter, aside of accepting that she has one. She believes she is protecting the girl from unnecessary media attention and speculation.

Although her family claimed Dotun Oladipo, a popular Nigerian politician was the father of her daughter, he denied the claims saying he was not the only guy dating her at that time.

Oladipo was 20 and Nnaji was15 at the time they started dating! When Nnaji appeared in the video of Dâ€™banjâ€™s hit song, Fall in Love, rumours of a blossoming relationship spread like a wild fire. Although Dâ€™bjanj and Nnaji played along, the cat was soon let out of the bag.

The alleged relationship was just a publicity stunt to attract sales to the video and give Dâ€™Banj hype based on the international recognition of Nnaji. Nnaji jumped out of the deal when she realised the publicity stunt was destroying her image.

She publicly stated that Dâ€™Banj was not her type of guy after rumours of her pregnancy with his child began to spread.

The 32-year-old actress is no stranger to celebrity feuds. Every girl knows that their girlfriendâ€™s ex-boyfriends are off limit. Nnaji broke the rules and dated actress Rita Dominicâ€™s ex-boyfriend. The feud between the two was so bad to the extent they could not attend the same events.

Nnaji has starred in over 80 Nollywood movies. She is considered to be one of the best paid actresses in Nollywood with rumours that she could be bagging up to $10,000 (sh24.2m).

In 2004, she signed a recording contract with EKB Records, a Ghanaian record label, and released her debut musical album One Logologo Line.
