Farmers in the Teso sub-region have been urged to take advantage of the ongoing rains and begin planting, as weather experts forecast favourable conditions for the new growing season.

George William Omony, forecasting services manager at the Uganda National Meteorological Authority (UNMA), said the current rainfall is steady and sufficient to support early planting. He advised farmers not to delay, noting that the rains present a timely opportunity to prepare gardens and sow seeds.

Omony added that the Authority will officially release the national weather forecast this Friday at the Uganda Media Centre.

He further explained that most parts of the country are expected to receive moderate rainfall in the coming weeks, creating favourable conditions for crops such as maize, beans, groundnuts and sorghum. He emphasised that early planting will enable crops to develop strong roots and fully benefit from soil moisture.

Agricultural expert Julius Eeru of SORUDA echoed the advice, urging farmers to use quality seeds and adopt proper farming practices in order to maximise yields.
