The Police are investigating the death of Dr Isaac Magoola, who was a senior lecturer at Makerere University Business School (MUBS).

Magoola, 59, died under unclear circumstances at his home in Seeta, off the Kampala-Jinja highway, on Friday (May 24).

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, confirmed that they had launched an investigation.

“Police [have] started investigating the case and our regional CID [Criminal Investigations Directorate] Kampala Metropolitan East is the one handling the case. True, we have taken over the matter,” he told New Vision Online.

Former Workers’ MP Sam Lyomoki had early in the afternoon said that the exact circumstances of his elder brother’s death remained unclear.

“He died this [Friday] morning at his home in Seeta, but the circumstances are not very clear and that is why we are trying to investigate what exactly happened and the people who were sleeping in the same house,” he said.

Lyomoki said they took the body to Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala to do a postmortem examination.

He said while they were still waiting for a postmortem report, adding that the Police arrived and took over the matter.

Magoola was in the news a few years ago leading MUBS striking lecturers as their acting academic staff association chairperson, which saw him clash with the then-MUBS principal Prof. Wasswa Balunywa.

In August 2019, Balunywa suspended him for alleged use of abusive language, which came two days after Magoola’s dismissal from the position of the Dean of the Faculty of Entrepreneurship and Business Administration, a position he had occupied since July 1, 2018.
