Stakeholders in climate change adaptation and mitigation measures are meeting today, Monday, for the 2nd Africa Climate Summit, taking place in Addis Ababa.

Hosted by the Ethiopian government in partnership with the African Union Commission, focus on day one is how nature-based solutions can restore the econ systems.

Examples of nature-based solutions include organic farming, Agroforestry (intercropping crops with trees), water and soil conservation, crop rotation, and forest landscape restoration, among others, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization.

The summit is running under the theme 'Accelerating Global Climate Solutions: Financing for Africa’s Resilient and Green Development’.

Other areas to be discussed include expanding clean energy access for Africa’s future, building infrastructure and safeguarding the community in the wake of climate change-related disasters.

The summit, which kicked off on Monday, September 8, 2025, and ends on September 10, 2025, has brought together leaders, innovators, and citizens united to define Africa’s green and resilient future.

For the next three days, African-led initiatives and innovations will be showcased, including dialogues, interactive engagements among others between member states and international organizations for possible partnerships, according to information from Africa Climate Summit (ACS2) social media pages.

While officiating at the opening ceremony, Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Dr Abiy Ahmed Ali, called on Africa to not only form a block of negotiators but rather position the continent as a solutions provider.

“As COP30 approaches, Africa must stand not as a bloc of negotiators but as a continent of solutions. We call for real investment, not charity,” he said. He also revealed Ethiopia’s desire to host the COP32.

He also proposed the establishment of the “Africa Climate Innovation Compact which aims to produce 1000 innovators by 2030 and to be financed and owned by Africans and implemented in partnership with partners."
