Lowly side Kisozi Seed School from Gomba made history by reaching the quarterfinals of the USSSA boys’ football championship in Masaka on their debut today when they beat Kawempe Moslem 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in normal time.

Trailing 2-0, Kisozi players Henry Mwesigwa and Reagan Kimbugwe scored the goals to force the game into penalties where they won.

The school started by President Yoweri Museveni to help educate the poor and orphaned in the area, finished 2nd in Group A behind St Mary’s Kitende and beat Old Kampala 1-0 in the round of 32 yesterday before today’s heroics which games teacher Hussein Kasujja said it was a also a surprise to them.

“We are also surprised that we have made it through to this level and this has ignited our confidence that we can still move further. It is our first time coming to the national championship save for when we played at the U16 last year, and we thank God for these wonderful results,” Said games teacher Hussein Kasujja.

Kwempe exit ensured all Kampala zone representatives were eliminated following the exits of Kakungulu Memorial, Uganda Martyrs Lubaga, and Old Kampala, with Jinja, Wakiso, Masaka, Teso, and Lango in contention.  

Meanwhile, 2017 champions Jinja SS eliminated fancied Amus College School 4-3 on penalties after the two sides drew 1-1 in normal time with Jinja SS equalizing three minutes to the end of the game and at the end of the game, Jinja SS head teacher Isaac Balimusangayo was seen jubilating in happiness.

The two were joined into the quarter-finals by home side Blessed Sacrament Kimaanya, who walloped Standard High Zzana 4-1 and hosts Masaka SS who saw off Mukono Kings 5-3 on penalties after the two sides played to a 3-3 draw.

 

St Juliana also booked a slot in the quarter-final after beating Jinja Comprehensive 2-0 while Jinja Progressive walloped Kabalega SS 5-0 in the only one-sided round of 16 game of the day.  

The Bukedea Comprehensive Vs Wisdom High School round of 16 games has been scheduled for tomorrow Friday morning.
