KAMPALA - Vision Group’s famous agricultural show is here again at the end of this month. The Harvest Money Expo will take place at Kololo Independence Grounds from the 27th of February to 1st March.
Several households are struggling financially. According to Samuel Sanya, an independent financial expert, UBOS [Uganda Bureau of Statistics] data shows that seven million Ugandans live below the poverty line. Nearly one in three households skips meals.
For millions, shs 100,000 is not discretionary income; it is the difference between eating and not eating.
“It costs a little fortune to be able to live a decent life, and this is impacted by many factors, starting with the earning potential of people in the household,” says Sanya.
The expo gives people a chance to rise above their circumstances, from financial cripples to athletes. This is because they will get the opportunity to learn how to make money even in their own homes, and even more, from experts.
For example, at the last expo, Abel Kiddu of African Mushroom Growers, taught and demonstrated mushroom growing as a lucrative venture in one’s home.
He explained that mushroom growing can take place in a 20 by 20ft house, which is not so big. It could be at the back of your house.
Kiddu said one needs the following to make a good house for mushroom growing: papyrus, kaveera (polythene) on top of the papyrus to shield it from rain and eucalyptus poles to hold the papyrus walls.
This is an investment of less than sh 1m, which can help a struggling household remain financially afloat.
At a fee of only sh10, 000, the expo may be your best bet to financial freedom this year.
