Spices are often considered as another food additive. Such a notion denies many Ugandans the opportunity to improve their health through the use of spices.

That is why at this year’s Harvest Money Expo, NARO lined up value-added spices from its incubation centre in Kawanda for showgoers to access.

The spices include fruit seed powders, avocado root powders, ginger, jackfruit seed and many others, which enhance body metabolism, stimulate appetite, balance hormones, reduce inflammation and tummy bloating and boost brain function.

Other benefits include enhanced hair growth, improved clear vision and sight, reduced muscle cramps, immunity boosters against common colds, relaxation for tired bodies and pain relief.

Other value-added products showcased included wine, snacks, daddies, cakes made from purple-fleshed sweet potatoes, beauty products from coffee and pre-cooked beans.

The just concluded expo was sponsored by Tunga Nutrition, ENGSOL, Uganda Development Corporation, aBi Development, Pearl Bank, Heifer International, Roke Telkom, Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Kingdom of the Netherlands and Uganda Revenue Authority.
