Ayuda en Accion (AeA) Uganda signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Uganda Solar Energy Association to help West Nile farmers access solar irrigation panels at a cheaper cost.

Cyiza Pauline, a senior energy and Marketing manager AeA signed on behalf of Ayuda en Accion and a private company OMIA for the implementation of its project on productive use of renewable energy (PURE) in Adjumani district.

Speaking during the launch, Cyiza said the project's objective is to increase the level of awareness of the benefits of solar irrigation pump usage and to help bridge the poverty gap between refugees and host communities in Adjumani.

“This partnership will increase the accessibility of solar irrigation pumps and engage smallholder farmers through increasing agricultural production by providing pumps on subsidies given by Ayuda,” she said.

Cyiza said the local community would be trained on the usage of Solar irrigation pumps and increase their accessibility.

Under the partnership, Uganda Solar Energy Association(USEA) representative, OMIA and Ayuda en Accion formalised the partnership, after identifying potential steps of market cooperation.

The agreement is meant to reinforce OMIA’s market access by facilitating the increase of OMIA’S workforce to increase access to smallholder farmers in Adjumani district. Actions followed by this project are oriented towards boosting farming for smallholder farmers based on the use of solar water pumping. END ITEMS
