In the quiet early hours of November 8, 2024, a brutal murder in Lira-City's Owiti cell, Amuca ward, disrupted business in the otherwise peaceful community.
In the dark early hours of November 7, 2024, a deadly scene unfolded in Owiti Cell, Amuca Ward, Lira City.
George Aliro, a 32-year-old butcher, reportedly met a violent end after a love affair that took a tragic turn.
The incident, reported by local resident and medical officer Solomon Opeta, has prompted a thorough police investigation into the tangled relationships and violent emotions that led to Aliro's untimely demise.
Initial reports indicate that Aliro’s relationship with a married woman, Daisy Akullo, led to an explosive encounter with her husband, Bazil Otim, who allegedly attacked and fatally wounded him.
What began as a secret affair culminated in a brutal confrontation between Aliro and Akullo’s husband, Bazil Otim, who is now the prime suspect in Aliro’s murder.
According to police spokesperson, Patrick Kimmy Okema from the North Kyoga Region, Aliro contacted Akullo on the night of the incident and arranged to meet at her marital home. When he arrived around midnight, Akullo opened the door.
Unaware that her husband was waiting inside. Aliro entered and Otim allegedly pounced on him, leading to a violent altercation that ended in bloodshed.
Otim reportedly used a panga—a machete-like blade—to deliver multiple blows to Aliro, who succumbed to his injuries at the scene due to excessive bleeding.
The murder was reported to police by Solomon Opeta, a 22-year-old medical worker residing in Owiti Cell, who was deeply disturbed by the violence that had erupted so close to his home.
Within hours, a team of police officers from Lira City West Division, including the Division CID Officer, Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO), and the Homicide team, arrived at the scene.
They conducted a thorough examination, documenting and securing evidence, including the panga suspected to be the murder weapon.
Aliro’s body was then transported to Lira Regional Referral Hospital mortuary, where an autopsy was conducted to confirm the cause of death.
As investigations progressed, Akullo and another man claiming to be the brother to the prime suspect were taken into police custody to aid investigators.
Police are currently on the hunt for Otim, who fled the scene after the attack. Officials are urging him to turn himself in at the nearest police station to assist in the investigation.
